The City of Orillia (population 30,000) is a charming northern Ontario town, just 20 minutes north of Barrie (population 500,000) and 1.25 hours north of Toronto where Hwy 11 (N-S) meets Hwy 12 (E-W). The Port of Orillia is the major port within the Trent Severn Waterway System, from which you can cruise to anywhere in the world. The port is walking distance to heritage downtown, trails & beaches, hotels, Stephen Leacock Museum and the famous Mariposa Bakery. The port is a 5 minute bike ride from Sophies Landing, along the Gordon Lightfoot trail. Orillia just completed a major addition to the Soldier's Memorial Hospital, a state of the art facility. Orillia is also home to Georgian College and the headquarters for the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Conveniently located just south of the black-fly belt, Orillia is the gateway to the Muskokas, but without the dreaded 4 hour drive. It has convenience such as Multi-plex Cinemas and big box stores. Orillia's name is derived from the Indian word meaning "land of lakes". There are over 20 lakes in Orillia and surrounding area. Orillia hosts many events and festivals throughout the year, mainly in the summer months. Orillia's charm, amenities and location make it ideal for a lifestyle community such as Sophie's Landing Lakeside Club. Things to do in Orillia:
